Serafima Kiseleva - An Introduction
by Serafima Kiseleva
I am Sima.

I discovered contemporary circus when I was travelling around and it happened that I stayed put at one place for a while and studied circus art and teaching.
After discovering circus it was just impossible not to dive into it with head and toes. Afterwards I was travelling around and staying with different circus companies and organisations to get new experience and to share mine. I guess the best thing so far was being in Palestine and working with local kids, not with local artists. We’ve created a show together and I finally got that feeling that what I was doing is exactly what I was supposed to be doing.

Then the pandemic started and it brought me back to my home city in Russia and partly because of that I’ve discovered the open call for the NHLP program.
While I was reading through the description of the program it was becoming clearer and clearer that this is what I need and want to be doing right now. I was always dreaming that one day I will be coming back home and influencing my cultural surroundings by bringing contemporary circus and inviting people in, creating inclusion and art, creating something special. But it all seemed like a far-away thing to do.
But the NHLP programme was saying - 'No, do it now, and we are here to help you figure out how, to get into the right mindset and connect you with like-minded people.'
So now I am part of the programme and I’ve already come a long way with it.

At this moment I’ve started my experience with a hosting organization which turned out to be not the one which was planned, but I think it was a good solution to the current situation and it might bring some unexpected gifts to my journey.

Stay tuned for more from my journey in NHLP!
